An elegant young man in black satin doublet and ruffled collar stands in a Florentine palace, a work of poetry at the ready in his hand. Some scholars hold that the young man was one of the late Renaissance artist's circle of literary acquaintances while others say it is a self portrait of the artist. Bronzino was the official court painter of the Duke Cosimo l de' Medici.
