I often talk about choosing a new bathroom vanity in terms of getting a look you’ll love – whether it’s traditional or contemporary. But design isn’t always about detail, and sometimes less is more – especially when it comes to a minimalist modern aesthetic. In some spaces, clean lines triumph, and simplicity offers it’s own unique style. Especially in a smaller bathroom, choosing modern wall mounted bathroom vanities that don’t take up much space or draw attention to themselves can be an excellent way to create a spare elegance without crowding your bathroom.<\/p>\n

Less Is More<\/h3>\n

I have more than one reason to like wall mounted bathroom vanities (quite a few more<\/a>, in fact!), but in this case they simply can’t be beat for creating a minimalist decor. While traditional bathroom vanities run the gamut from antique-quality hand-carved woodwork to sleek modern designs, wall mounted vanities are almost always the latter, and more specifically are usually rectangular. With hard right angles and simple squared lines, wall mounted bathroom vanities are the picture of minimalist design, and because they’re suspended over the ground, they give any space they’re in a nice sense of weightlessness and an open feeling you won’t get from a traditional cabinet style. Plus, because they’re available in a huge range of sizes and shapes, it’s easy to find one to suit your space.<\/p>\n

Practically every manufacturer offers at least one simple, square wall mounted bathroom vanity like this Daytona vanity. What I like most about this style is that it’s simple and efficient without being unattractive. Compact versions take up among the least space of any vanity style, offering plenty of aesthetically pleasing white space and, more practically, a little extra leg room – perfect for a smaller space. And while square bathroom vanities are simple on the outside, they can be quite versatile on the inside, offering everything from a single large pull-out drawer to a large cabinet and every combination of the two in between.<\/p>\n

Often bathroom vanities form the main focal point of a bathroom. Antique pieces are designed to draw the eye, and even simple pedestal sinks<\/a> help set a vintage tone for the bathroom. But big designs can easily crowd a small space, and sometimes doing something unusual and unexpected is even more visually appealing than something ornate. For example, all on its own a wall mounted bathroom vanity is relatively simple in design, but add a decorative vessel sink<\/a>, and suddenly you have a stunning focal point, even in an itty bitty space.<\/p>\n

What I really love about a minimalist bathroom design, though, is that while it can be a lifesaver in a small bathroom, it’s a great way to make any<\/em> size bathroom look big, open, clean, and inviting. Take this Justine vanity for instance: it’s sized for a much bigger bathroom, with all the counter space and drawer space you might want from full sized bathroom cabinetry, but with a sleek, minimalist style. Add in all that white space , warm earthy neutral colors, and lots of natural light, and you’ve got a simple, inviting spa-style bathroom vanity<\/a> that will make for a nicely uncluttered aesthetic.<\/p>\n

I’m something of a closet utilitarian. Regular readers will probably know that I’m a fan of simplicity of form and elegance of function, and I say “closet” not because I think it’s a bad thing, but because I realize other people do<\/em>. The word “utilitarian” probably makes most people think of stainless steel and sterile white, but all it really means (at least in terms of design) is functional – not ugly. I think wall mounted bathroom vanities are actually a great example, with smart internal storage<\/a> and often a modular design that makes it easy to add on the type of storage you need. Wall mounted storage cabinets make for easily reachable, customized storage, but also play well with a minimal design, creating a nice symmetry (even better with high contrast colors<\/a>!) or asymmetry if you prefer, and plenty of artistic white space.<\/p>\n

More than a few wall mounted bathroom vanities come in a (let’s be honest) somewhat generic espresso finish. While this dark brown and black are pretty typical in modern design, they aren’t particularly unique. Fortunately, they also aren’t the only options. I’m a big fan of the wall mounted bathroom vanities from Robern, which are made from aluminum rather than hardwood or plywood and come in a variety of bright, vibrant colors. Choosing a different color (whether it’s a vibrant teal like this pair or just a different wood tone) is a great way to add detail to a minimalist bathroom. In fact, choosing a distinct color can even set the tone for the rest of your bathroom…without a whole lot of extra detail!<\/p>\n
